Coming Attractions: STARSHIP INVASIONS (1977)

I saw Starship Invasions on network television in the late 70s, and haven't seen it since. I remember Christopher Lee and Robert Vaughn and lots of New Age/Erich von Däniken/Pyramid Power/Bermuda Triangle stuff, and that it seemed to be trying to attract fans of both Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

And that it wasn't very good. Of course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy seeing it again....

  1. It was on youtube the last time I looked several months ago. I first saw it on tv in 1981, totally fun in a campy sort of way.

  2. Saw it at the theater. Sure miss those days. Somebody put it out on DVD already!

  3. I have a "gray market" copy. It always seemed more of a TV movie than a theatrical one.

  4. I do remember this. With a fresh case of Star Wars fever on the brain, the TV ads totally caught my attention, but I never did get the chance to see it. I will enjoy the trailer and the shot of nostalgia, rather than try and find a copy of the movie. This seems like something that just won't be the same viewing 33 years too late.

  5. Love this film. The weirdest thing about it, though, is that a lot of the stuff in it, including the Legion of the Winged Serpent chest emblems and the pointy-headed design of the robots, is taken from actual UFO lore!

  6. I was lucky enough to see this in the theater as a kid, but they never showed it on any of the pay-cable channels for years. I think that I finally caught it on T.V. back in the 90's. I still remember the jazz music and the finger-weapons. You can't go wrong with Christopher Lee -- the man did anything for a paycheck back then.

  8. I actually saw this movie at a drive-in with my parents. I have vague memories of some of the special effects shots. I'd love to see the whole thing again.

  9. Thanks!!! Been trying to remember what this was for years. Searched for it several times this week and finally ran across this blog. Tried to find this robot forever!!! Odd that it's been so hard to find as it seems pretty unique.

    Thanks again!!!
